Rutgers Competes at Princeton QuadPublished by
PRINCETON, N.J. — Rutgers sophomore Bruce Owens (Wenonah, N.J) placed first in two events this weekend at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The event was a quad-meet featuring Rutgers, Penn, Princeton and Villanova at Weaver Stadium. Individually, Owens won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.00 and also placed second in the 100-meter run with a time of 10.81. Owens also took first in the 4x100 meter relay with Nil-Amon Robertson (Plainfield, N.J.), Mike Demko (Hightstown, N.J.) and Zach Shands (Wyncote, Pa.). The team finished the race with a time of 41.28. In the 4x400 meter relay Owens, Robertson, Steve Swern (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and Jahmone Duhaney (Boonton, N.J.) took second with a time of 3:16.29. Swern placed first in the 400-meter dash finishing in 47.00. Junior Kyle Grady (East Brunswick, N.J.) won the 110-meter hurdles event with a time of 14.34. In the shot put, senior Paul Applegate (Beachwood, N.J.) took second with a throw of 16.38 meters. Duhaney finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.11. In the 200- meter dash, Robertson placed third with a time of 21.30. Tyrone Putnam (Washington, Md.) finished third in the triple jump with a 13.62-meter leap.
